I Heart Huckabees is a wildly singular existential comedy that earns high marks for novelty — its philosophical comedy about 'existential detectives' is genuinely one-of-a-kind in tone and conception. David O. Russell assembles a remarkable ensemble (Dustin Hoffman, Lily Tomlin, Jude Law, Naomi Watts, Mark Wahlberg) who commit fully to the absurdist material, elevating the acting category. The plot is ambitious but intentionally chaotic, threading existentialism, environmentalism, and corporate satire together in ways that are intellectually stimulating but sometimes frustratingly incoherent. The cinematography is functional and energetic but not particularly distinguished. The ending struggles to bring satisfying resolution to its many philosophical and narrative threads, leaving viewers more bewildered than enlightened.
