Down to Earth is a remake of Heaven Can Wait (itself a remake of Here Comes Mr. Jordan), so it brings little novelty to a well-worn premise. The plot follows the formula closely without meaningful reinvention, and the comedic and romantic beats are predictable. Chris Rock brings energy to the lead role and elevates the material somewhat, but the supporting cast is underutilized. Cinematography is functional and unremarkable, typical of early-2000s studio comedies. The ending resolves things tidily but without much emotional payoff. Overall a forgettable, middling comedy that coasts on its star.
