Peter Klaven is a successful real estate agent who, upon getting engaged to the woman of his dreams, Zooey, discovers, to his dismay and chagrin, that he has no male friend close enough to serve as his Best Man. Peter immediately sets out to rectify the situation, embarking on a series of bizarre and awkward "man-dates."
I Love You, Man is a likable bromantic comedy that benefits from strong chemistry between Paul Rudd and Jason Segel, both of whom bring genuine warmth and comic timing to their roles. The premise of a man scrambling to find a best man through awkward 'man-dates' is a fresh enough spin on the buddy comedy to feel distinct, though it never transcends its genre conventions. The plot is fairly predictable with the expected third-act falling-out and reconciliation, and the ending lands safely rather than memorably. Cinematography is functional at best — standard comedy coverage with nothing visually distinctive. A crowd-pleasing mid-tier comedy that delivers on its modest ambitions.
