Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating
Superman and Supergirl take on the cybernetic being known as Brainiac, who boasts that he possesses "the knowledge and strength of 10,000 worlds."
Superman: Unbound is a competent DC animated feature adapting Geoff Johns' Brainiac storyline, but it lands squarely in average territory. The plot follows the comic source material reasonably well with Brainiac as a menacing villain, but the structure feels familiar and rushed given the constraints of the animated film format. Voice acting is serviceable but lacks the depth of the better DC animated productions. The animation style is functional rather than visually distinctive, with action sequences that feel adequate rather than spectacular. As a Superman story it offers little that hasn't been seen before in DC animation, and the ending resolves too neatly without lasting impact. A solid mid-tier entry in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies line.
