Eye for an Eye (1996)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

It's fire and brimstone time as grieving mother Karen McCann takes justice into her own hands when a kangaroo court in Los Angeles fails to convict Robert Doob, the monster who raped and murdered her 17-year-old daughter.

The Quartile Take

Eye for an Eye is a competent but unremarkable rape-and-revenge thriller elevated somewhat by Sally Field's committed central performance and Kiefer Sutherland's genuinely unsettling turn as the predator. The plot follows a well-worn genre template with little deviation — grieving parent, failed justice system, vigilante resolution — offering minimal surprise. Cinematography is functional and TV-movie-adjacent, with no distinctive visual language. The ending delivers the cathartic payoff the genre demands without much moral complexity. Novelty is low given how thoroughly it recycles genre conventions without a distinctive voice or angle.
