Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating
Forced underground by the next ice age, a struggling outpost of survivors must fight to preserve humanity against a threat even more savage than nature.
The Colony is a competent but largely forgettable post-apocalyptic survival thriller that recycles familiar dystopian and cannibal-horror tropes without adding much fresh perspective. The underground bunker setting provides some atmospheric visual moments, giving cinematography a slight edge, but the plot is predictable and derivative, blending elements of The Thing and standard survival horror without distinguishing itself. The acting is serviceable at best, with even experienced cast members like Laurence Fishburne unable to elevate underwritten material. The ending resolves in a formulaic, unsatisfying manner. Overall a below-average genre entry that fails to capitalize on its intriguing ice age premise.
