Leprechaun 2 (1994)

Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating

A thousand years ago, the Leprechaun left a bloody trail when he ripped through the countryside in search of his stolen gold. Now he's back in the big city using all of his deadly tricks to snare the girl of his nightmares. His bloody quest becomes more deadly when her boyfriend steals one of the Leprechaun's gold coins. The town soon discovers two dead bodies and a trail of gold dust leads them to the Leprechaun's lair.

The Quartile Take

Leprechaun 2 is a straightforward horror-comedy sequel that retreads the original's formula with minimal innovation. The plot is thin and derivative, shifting to a big-city setting but offering little beyond the same gold-obsessed villain antics. Acting is serviceable at best, with Warwick Davis again providing most of the entertainment as the Leprechaun. Cinematography is competent but unremarkable for a low-budget 90s horror entry. Novelty is low given it's a formulaic sequel recycling the same gags and kills. The ending resolves predictably with no particular flair. A passable but forgettable genre entry that sits squarely in below-average territory across the board.
