Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013)

Quartile rating: 8/10 · 1 rating

The Flash finds himself in a war-torn alternate timeline and teams up with alternate versions of his fellow heroes to restore the timeline.

The Quartile Take

Flashpoint Paradox adapts the beloved DC comics storyline with remarkable fidelity and emotional weight. The alternate timeline conceit is executed with genuine stakes — the Aquaman/Wonder Woman war, a brutal Thomas Wayne Batman, and a morally complex resolution give the plot real punch. The ending, in which Barry sacrifices his mother's life again and delivers a letter to Bruce, is genuinely affecting and earns its emotional payoff. Voice acting is competent across the board without being particularly standout. The animation is serviceable DC animated fare — clean but not visually adventurous. Novelty is solid for an animated superhero film — the dark alternate-universe deconstruction of familiar heroes was fresh for the medium at the time, though the concept itself comes directly from the source material.
