Walk of Shame (2014)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

A reporter's dream of becoming a news anchor is compromised after a one-night stand leaves her stranded in downtown L.A. without a phone, car, ID or money - and only 8 hours to make it to the most important job interview of her life.

The Quartile Take

Walk of Shame is a fairly formulaic fish-out-of-water comedy with a predictable premise and by-the-numbers execution. Elizabeth Banks brings genuine charm and comic energy to the lead role, elevating material that doesn't always deserve it. The cinematography is functional but unremarkable, capturing downtown LA without much visual flair. The concept isn't particularly fresh — the stranded-without-resources comedy has well-worn roots — and the screenplay relies heavily on contrivance and stereotype. The ending wraps up tidily in a satisfying if unsurprising way, giving Banks's character a crowd-pleasing resolution.
