Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus is helpless to save his family from Hades, vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus and unleash hell on earth. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, Perseus and his warriors will only survive if Perseus accepts his power as a god, defies fate and creates his own destiny.
The 2010 Clash of the Titans remake is a broadly enjoyable but largely hollow blockbuster. The plot is formulaic — a paint-by-numbers hero's journey with little mythological depth or character development beyond the basics. The acting is serviceable at best; Sam Worthington brings limited charisma to Perseus, and even seasoned talents like Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes are underutilized in broadly sketched god roles. Cinematography has some visually impressive set pieces — the Medusa sequence and the Kraken reveal show decent spectacle craft — though the notorious post-production 3D conversion muddies the visual quality considerably. Novelty is low: it recycles the 1981 original's story without meaningfully reimagining the mythology, following a derivative blockbuster template. The ending is perfunctory and unsatisfying, wrapping up conflicts too neatly with little earned emotional weight.
