Naruto Uzumaki, Kakashi Hatake, Sakura Haruno, and Rock Lee are assigned to protect the prince of the Land of the Moon, Michiru, during his world trip; other escorts had been hired, but quit due to being treated poorly. The Land of the Moon is a very wealthy nation, so Michiru tends to buy whatever he wants, and has a very materialistic worldview. His Hikaru, also acts in much the same manner.
Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom is a competent but unremarkable entry in the Naruto film series. The plot follows a predictable formula: escort mission with a spoiled client who undergoes a redemption arc, culminating in a standard battle to reclaim a kingdom. The story beats are telegraphed well in advance, and the antagonists lack depth. Animation quality is solid for a mid-2000s theatrical anime release, with fluid action sequences and reasonably expressive character work that elevates it slightly above the TV series. However, the film adds little novelty to the Naruto universe, recycling familiar themes of hard work and believing in oneself without any distinctive twist. The ending resolves too neatly, with the prince's transformation feeling rushed and unearned. Overall a passable filler adventure for fans but offering little for general audiences.
