Mark wants to lose his virginity, but his girlfriend wants to wait. Unfortunately for both of them, a 400-year-old vampire Countess needs to turn a virgin into a vampire before Halloween in order to preserve her own youthful appearance, and when she finds Mark, she turns his life upside-down.
Once Bitten is a lightweight 1985 teen sex comedy with a vampire twist that never fully commits to either its horror or comedic potential. The plot is formulaic and predictable, leaning on tired virginity-obsession tropes of the era. Jim Carrey shows early comedic energy and Lauren Hutton brings some campy charm as the Countess, making the acting the relative highlight. Cinematography is functional and unremarkable, typical of mid-80s low-budget comedies. The concept of blending vampire lore with teen sex comedy had some novelty at the time but executes it in a largely derivative and by-the-numbers fashion. The ending resolves neatly but without any real surprise or satisfaction.
