An American backpacker gets involved with a ring of drug smugglers as their driver, and winds up on the run from his employers across Cologne’s autobahns.
Collide is a forgettable action thriller that offers little beyond its high-speed autobahn chase sequences. The plot is thin and derivative — a love-motivated man-on-the-run drug smuggling story with few surprises. Anthony Hopkins and Ben Kingsley bring some charisma to their villainous roles, elevating the acting somewhat above the material, but the leads are unremarkable. The cinematography captures the German locations and car chases competently but without distinctive style. The premise and execution are largely by-the-numbers for the genre, and the ending fails to deliver satisfying payoff. A passable but instantly forgettable mid-budget action thriller.
