B-movie Legend Bruce Campbell is mistaken for his character Ash from the Evil Dead trilogy and forced to fight a real monster in a small town in Oregon.
My Name Is Bruce is a self-aware meta-comedy that leans hard into Bruce Campbell's cult status and his Ash persona from Evil Dead. The novelty of Campbell playing a parody of himself being mistaken for his fictional hero is genuinely fun and distinctive, giving it a slight edge in that category. However, the plot is thin and predictable, the acting is deliberately campy but rarely transcends self-indulgence, the cinematography is functional at best for a low-budget production, and the ending resolves without much surprise or satisfaction. It works best as a fan-service curio for Evil Dead devotees rather than a fully realized comedy or horror film.
