Gru is a supervillain determined to prove he’s the greatest by stealing the Moon. To pull off his plan, he adopts three orphaned girls—Margo, Edith, and Agnes—intending to use them as part of his scheme. However, as Gru bonds with the girls, his cold, villainous exterior begins to melt.
Despicable Me is a charming, well-crafted animated comedy with a genuinely warm central premise — a supervillain softened by fatherhood — executed with wit and visual flair. The voice performances, particularly Steve Carell's Gru, are likable and distinct. The Minions and the production design give it a playful, slightly satirical visual identity that distinguishes it from Pixar's house style. However, the plot follows a predictable redemption arc with few surprises, and the ending resolves everything neatly and quickly without much emotional depth or risk. It's an above-average family film in most respects but not truly exceptional in any single category.
