Spectre (2015)

Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating

A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.

The Quartile Take

Spectre is visually stunning with Roger Deakins-level cinematography from Hoyte van Hoytema, particularly the breathtaking Day of the Dead opening sequence and Austrian mountain settings. However, the plot is its significant weakness — a convoluted and unsatisfying attempt to retroactively tie together Craig-era Bond films, while the SPECTRE reveal and Blofeld's personal connection to Bond feel contrived. The acting is competent with Craig delivering his usual stoic charm, though Christoph Waltz is criminally underused as Blofeld. Novelty is low — it recycles familiar Bond tropes and leans heavily on nostalgia without adding much new. The ending is weak, feeling rushed and emotionally unearned, with a climax that fails to match the promise of the film's spectacular opening.
