The Getaway (1994)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

An ex-con and his devoted wife must flee from danger when a heist doesn't go as planned.

The Quartile Take

The 1994 remake of Peckinpah's classic offers little justification for its existence. Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger (a real-life couple at the time) lack the chemistry and charisma of McQueen and MacGraw, and the plot hews closely to the original without adding meaningful reinterpretation. The cinematography is competent Hollywood action fare but unremarkable. As a remake of an already well-known film, it scores low on novelty, essentially recycling the same story beats without a distinctive voice or fresh perspective. The ending, like much of the film, feels rote and uninspired. A fairly forgettable mid-90s action thriller that pales against its predecessor.
