Parkland (2013)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

November 22nd, 1963 was a day that changed the world forever — when young American President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. This film follows, almost in real time, a handful of individuals forced to make split-second decisions after an event that would change their lives and forever alter the world’s landscape.

The Quartile Take

Parkland takes an interesting ensemble approach to the JFK assassination, focusing on lesser-known figures like the Parkland Hospital doctors and Abraham Zapruder rather than the familiar political narrative. However, the film struggles to give its fragmented vignettes enough depth or emotional payoff. The acting is competent across a capable cast but no performance truly distinguishes itself. Cinematography uses a handheld, verité style appropriate to the chaos but not especially distinguished. The novelty is limited — while the angle is fresh, the execution feels like a well-intentioned TV movie, and the ending dissipates without a strong dramatic resolution, leaving the ensemble threads feeling unresolved rather than meaningfully open.
