Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

The Quartile Take

The Ugly Truth is a largely formulaic romantic comedy that follows the predictable opposites-attract arc without much deviation. Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler have decent chemistry and their performances elevate the material somewhat, but the script leans heavily on crude humor and gender-war clichés rather than genuine wit. The cinematography is functional TV-movie level work with nothing visually memorable. The film offers little novelty—its provocateur-meets-uptight-woman premise had been done many times before and more cleverly. The ending resolves exactly as expected, offering no surprises. It lands as a passable but forgettable entry in the genre.
