Minions Stuart, Kevin and Bob are recruited by Scarlet Overkill, a super-villain who, alongside her inventor husband Herb, hatches a plot to take over the world.
Minions is a colorful, energetic spin-off that leans heavily on slapstick and the appeal of its goggle-eyed protagonists, but the plot is thin and episodic, essentially a series of loosely connected comic set-pieces rather than a cohesive narrative. The voice performances and character work are fun, particularly Sandra Bullock's Scarlet Overkill, giving the film some comedic spark. Visually the animation is polished and vibrant, though not groundbreaking. As a spin-off the film has a certain novelty in centering the comic relief characters, but the formula feels stretched thin without the Despicable Me structure supporting it. The ending resolves adequately but lacks any real emotional payoff, feeling rushed and perfunctory.
