Quartile rating: 8/10 · 1 rating
Newlywed couple Ted and Tami-Lynn want to have a baby, but in order to qualify to be a parent, Ted will have to prove he's a person in a court of law.
Ted 2 retreads much of the first film's shock-comedy formula with diminishing returns. The courtroom premise offers a thin satirical hook about civil rights that never fully develops, and the plot meanders through loosely connected set pieces. MacFarlane's direction is serviceable but unremarkable, and the cast — Wahlberg, a newly introduced Amanda Seyfried — perform adequately without being given strong material. The novelty of a foul-mouthed sentient teddy bear had largely worn off from the original, making this sequel feel formulaic. The ending resolves predictably with little emotional payoff.
