Reindeer Games is a fairly forgettable mid-tier thriller from John Frankenheimer. The plot has some twisty ambitions but collapses under its own convolutions and implausibilities. Affleck and Theron do what they can but the material lets them down, and Sinise is hammy as the villain. The cinematography is competent but unremarkable for a winter-set action thriller. It has a Christmas heist hook that sounds distinctive but executes in a largely formulaic way. The ending delivers a reasonable payoff twist that elevates it slightly above the muddled middle.
