Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating
One of comedian Richard Pryor's later stand-up performances. As foul-mouthed as ever, Pryor touches on most of the same topics as in his previous live shows. Filmed at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans.
Richard Pryor's raw comedic genius carries this late-career stand-up special, with his delivery and stage presence earning top marks for performance. However, by 1983 Pryor was revisiting familiar territory—drugs, relationships, race—without the revelatory freshness of 'Live in Concert' or 'Live on the Sunset Strip.' The cinematography is functional TV-movie fare with basic multi-camera concert coverage. As a stand-up film it follows the standard format with no structural novelty. The ending wraps up conventionally. Pryor's talent remains the undeniable draw, but this is a step below his landmark earlier specials.
