A man looking for the release of a long-time prisoner takes a police officer, his daughter, and a group of strangers hostage.
Police Story: Lockdown is a notable departure from the classic Jackie Chan Police Story formula, trading slapstick action comedy for a grittier, more confined hostage thriller. While Chan delivers a more dramatic performance than usual, the confined nightclub setting and hostage negotiation plot feel somewhat generic and the film struggles to fully commit to either its action or drama ambitions. The pacing is uneven, the supporting characters are thinly written, and the ending resolves in a fairly predictable fashion. Cinematography is competent but unremarkable for the genre. As a Chan vehicle it offers some novelty in tone but the underlying story is derivative of countless siege thrillers.
