The Quartile Take

The Legend Ends delivers a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy with a climactic final showdown that pays off the buildup across the previous films. The ending battle sequences are well-choreographed and emotionally resonant, earning a genuine standout mark. Plot-wise, the film follows a fairly conventional shonen manga structure — hero trains, hero confronts villain — keeping it solidly above average but not exceptional. Acting is competent throughout, with Takeru Satoh reliable as Kenshin and Tatsuya Fujiwara menacing as Shishio, though characterization remains surface-level for most of the cast. Cinematography is polished and serviceable for the genre, with solid practical action staging but nothing that transcends the expected jidaigeki visual grammar. Novelty is above average as the trilogy as a whole represents a well-executed live-action manga adaptation with genuine craft, but by the third installment the formula is well-established and the film treads familiar ground.
