Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating
A hard-luck limo driver struggling to go straight and pay off a debt to his bookie takes on a job with a crazed passenger whose sought-after ledger implicates some seriously dangerous criminals.
Stretch is a scrappy, energetic B-movie comedy-thriller with a fun premise and a committed performance from Patrick Wilson, but it never quite transcends its pulpy roots. The plot is fairly formulaic — the debt-ridden everyman caught up in a wild night of crime is well-trodden territory — and the ending resolves itself without much surprise. Chris Pine goes admirably unhinged as the eccentric billionaire, injecting some genuine novelty into what could have been a routine caper. Cinematography is serviceable with some decent kinetic energy but nothing memorable. A passable, entertaining genre piece that underperformed on release but found a cult following for its comedic energy.
