On Quartile, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day scores 6/10 across five categories — strongest on Plot (Above Average), weakest on Cinematography (Below Average).
Skillfully framed by an unknown enemy for the murder of a priest, wanted vigilante MacManus brothers Murphy and Connor must come out of hiding on a sheep farm in Ireland to fight for justice in Boston.
The Boondock Saints II is a largely uninspired retread of its cult predecessor. The plot retreads familiar revenge-vigilante territory without adding meaningful depth, the acting ranges from serviceable to hammy (Julie Benz's performance as the FBI agent replacement is a weak link), the cinematography mimics the stylized slow-motion aesthetic of the original without improving on it, and the ending offers little satisfaction or surprise. As a sequel it delivers more of the same without the raw energy or novelty that made the original a cult hit, resulting in a by-the-numbers follow-up that disappoints even fans of the first film.
