A vicious serial sex killer is on the loose, and landscape gardener and shop-window outfitter Loris is the prime suspect, thanks to his unfortunate habit of getting caught in compromising situations (for which there is always a totally innocent explanation that the police fail to spot). Undercover policewoman Jessica is assigned by eccentric police psychologist Taccone to follow Loris.
Roberto Benigni's Italian farce delivers solid comic plotting built on mistaken identity and escalating misunderstandings, a reliable but well-executed structure. Benigni's physical comedy and timing are charming and energetic, elevating the material above average, though the supporting cast is more functional than remarkable. Visually it's a competent but unremarkable Italian production of the era with little distinctive cinematographic ambition. The premise isn't wholly original — owing debts to classic farce traditions — but Benigni's singular comedic persona gives it a recognizable voice. The ending resolves the farcical chaos adequately without a particularly memorable or surprising payoff.
