Takers (2010)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

A seasoned team of bank robbers, including Gordon Jennings, John Rahway, A.J., and brothers Jake and Jesse Attica successfully complete their latest heist and lead a life of luxury while planning their next job. When Ghost, a former member of their team, is released from prison he convinces the group to strike an armored car carrying $20 million. As the "Takers" carefully plot out their strategy and draw nearer to exacting the grand heist, a reckless police officer inches closer to apprehending the criminals.

The Quartile Take

Takers is a slick but derivative heist thriller that borrows heavily from Heat and similar genre entries without adding much new. The plot is functional but formulaic — a crew reassembled by a shady ex-member for one big score is well-worn territory, and the screenplay doesn't elevate it with strong character work or surprises. The ensemble cast (Idris Elba, Paul Walker, Hayden Christensen, T.I.) is game and reasonably charismatic, lifting the film above its script limitations. Cinematography is competent and stylish for the budget, with a notably kinetic foot-chase sequence, but nothing truly distinguished. Novelty is low given how closely it treads familiar heist-film ground. The ending is underwhelming — multiple deaths feel obligatory rather than earned, and the resolution lacks the punch the film seems to be building toward.
