When minor-league hockey player Derek Thompson -- who has a penchant for knocking out his opponents' teeth every time he plays -- disillusions a fan, he is sentenced to a stint for one week as a bona fide, tutu-clad, real-life tooth fairy. Soon, Derek is inspired to rekindle his youthful dreams.
Tooth Fairy is a formulaic family comedy that follows a predictable redemption arc with few surprises. Dwayne Johnson is charming enough but the material doesn't challenge him or the supporting cast. Visually it's competent but unremarkable TV-movie-level work. The premise of a tough hockey player forced into fairy duty has mild comedic novelty but is largely squandered with paint-by-numbers execution. The ending wraps everything up in the most expected fashion possible. A thoroughly average, harmless family film that lands squarely in the middle across all dimensions.
