Unfinished Business (2015)

Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating

A hard-working small business owner and his two associates travel to Europe to close the most important deal of their lives. But what began as a routine business trip goes off the rails in every imaginable – and unimaginable – way, including unplanned stops at a massive sex fetish event and a global economic summit.

The Quartile Take

Unfinished Business is a largely forgettable R-rated comedy that follows a well-worn formula of fish-out-of-water shenanigans abroad. The plot is thin and predictable, recycling comedy-of-errors tropes without much originality or wit. Vince Vaughn leads a game but underutilized cast, and neither he nor Dave Franco or Tom Wilkinson are given enough material to elevate the generic screenplay. The cinematography is functional at best, with European locations used primarily as backdrops for crude gags rather than any visual storytelling. The film attempts some heart with subplot family issues but these feel obligatory. The ending wraps things up neatly but without any real payoff. Nothing about the film is distinctively crafted or memorable, landing squarely in below-average territory across the board.
