Alice Kingsleigh returns to Underland and faces a new adventure in saving the Mad Hatter.
Alice Through the Looking Glass is a visually busy but narratively thin sequel that struggles to recapture the magic of its predecessor. The plot revolves around a time-travel MacGuffin to save the Mad Hatter, feeling contrived and overly mechanical. The acting is serviceable — Sacha Baron Cohen adds some energy as Time — but the ensemble feels underutilized. Cinematography is colorful and lavish but leans heavily on CGI spectacle over genuine visual artistry, making it feel more like a theme park ride than a film. Novelty is low: it largely recycles Wonderland aesthetics and tropes without adding much that feels fresh or distinctive. The ending wraps up predictably without emotional payoff, leaving little lasting impression.
