The "black sheep" son of a wealthy family meets a young psychiatric patient who's been raised in isolation her entire life. He takes the naive young woman home for his brother's wedding an improbable romance blooms, as she impresses everyone with her genuine, simple charms.
Barefoot is a formulaic romantic drama built on a well-worn 'damaged outsider redeems troubled man' premise, marked as a remake and leaning heavily on predictable beats. The plot offers little surprise beyond its quirky naivety conceit, and the cinematography is functional at best. Acting is serviceable with Evan Rachel Wood bringing some charm to the naive lead role. The ending resolves in expected feel-good fashion without much earned emotional weight. Novelty is low given its derivative, by-the-numbers romantic comedy-drama structure.
