On a road trip, Nic and two friends are drawn to an isolated area by a computer genius. When everything suddenly goes dark, Nic regains consciousness – only to find himself in a waking nightmare.
The Signal is a visually striking sci-fi thriller with genuinely impressive cinematography and atmosphere in its first two acts, building tension with a cool mystery. However, its ending is a significant weak point — the reveal feels convoluted and unsatisfying to many viewers, undermining the careful buildup. Acting is serviceable without being remarkable, and while the premise has some distinctive qualities, it leans on familiar body-horror and secret-lab tropes. The film's greatest strength is its moody, well-composed visual style.
