Rage (2014) is a by-the-numbers revenge thriller starring Nicolas Cage that offers little to distinguish itself from countless similar films. The plot follows a well-worn template of a reformed criminal pulled back into violence to save a family member, with no meaningful subversions or fresh angles. Cage's performance is underwhelming even by his standards, and the supporting cast is largely forgettable. The cinematography is competent but unremarkable, typical of mid-budget action fare. The twist ending attempts to add weight but feels contrived rather than earned. Novelty is particularly low as the film recycles familiar genre beats without any distinctive voice or execution.
