After defeating Frieza, Goku returns to Earth and goes on a camping trip with Gohan and Krillin. Everything is normal until Cooler - Frieza's brother - sends three henchmen after Goku. A long fight ensues between our heroes and Cooler, in which he transforms into the fourth stage of his evolution and has the edge in the fight... until Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan.
Cooler's Revenge is a competent but formulaic Dragon Ball Z film that essentially rehashes the Frieza arc with a new villain who is Frieza's brother. The plot is thin and predictable — a camping trip interrupted by an antagonist seeking revenge, culminating in a Super Saiyan transformation that mirrors the Namek finale. The animation for 1991 is decent with some solid action sequences and fluid fight choreography, elevating the cinematography above average for TV anime films of the era. Voice acting (Japanese cast) delivers reliably. However, the novelty is low given Cooler is a near-carbon-copy of Frieza in concept and motivation, offering little that wasn't already seen in the main series. The ending follows the expected beat-for-beat Super Saiyan power-up resolution without much surprise. A solid fan-service entry but not particularly distinguished within the broader DBZ canon.
