Roger is a foster child whose irresponsible father promises to get his act together when Roger's favourite baseball team, the California Angels, wins the pennant. The problem is that the Angels are in last place, so Roger prays for help to turn the team around. Sure enough, his prayers are answered in the form of angel Al.
Angels in the Outfield is a warm, likable family fantasy that hits its modest marks without distinction. The plot is predictable feel-good fare — a remake with a familiar 'underdog team gets divine help' structure that offers little surprise, earning a low Novelty score. Acting is serviceable with a charming young cast and some recognizable adult names (Danny Glover, Christopher Lloyd) doing solid if unremarkable work. Cinematography is functional sports-film stuff, nothing visually memorable. The ending delivers the expected emotional payoff competently, which is all it needs to do for its audience. Solid mid-tier family entertainment.
