The Quartile Take

Superchondriac is a broad French comedy vehicle for Dany Boon, following his massive Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis success. The hypochondriac premise is a well-worn comedic trope and the film executes it in a largely formulaic fashion, mixing slapstick and situational humor without much surprise. Boon's physical performance carries the film and keeps it watchable, but the plot meanders and the action-comedy detour with the freedom fighter subplot feels grafted on and tonally uneven. Cinematography is functional and unremarkable for the genre. The ending resolves predictably. A passable but unremarkable crowd-pleaser that underperforms relative to Boon's earlier work.
