Quartile rating: 5/10 · 1 rating
Two brothers, both with troubled paths, find themselves in the middle of one last bank job.
American Heist is a formulaic, by-the-numbers heist thriller that offers nothing distinctive. The sibling-redemption-through-crime premise is thoroughly recycled, the execution is flat, and the film fails to carve out any identity of its own. Acting is mediocre despite recognizable faces, cinematography is generic direct-to-video fare, and the ending resolves without surprise or emotional payoff. Novelty is particularly low as it retreads well-worn heist and brotherhood tropes with no fresh angle.
