The Quartile Take

Ninja (2009) is a straightforward martial arts action film with a fairly generic plot centered on protecting a sacred chest of ninja weapons. The story hits familiar genre beats without much depth or originality. Acting is functional but unremarkable, with Scott Adkins delivering more through physicality than dramatic range. Cinematography is competent for its budget, with some well-staged fight sequences that show decent production value. Novelty is low — the gaijin-becomes-ninja premise is a well-worn trope and the film doesn't subvert or elevate it in any meaningful way. The ending resolves predictably without much dramatic payoff. Overall a serviceable but forgettable entry in the direct-to-video martial arts genre.
