Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating
Through a series of misunderstandings, Alvin, Simon and Theodore come to believe that Dave is going to propose to his new girlfriend in New York City - and dump them. They have three days to get to him and stop the proposal.
The fourth entry in the live-action/CGI Chipmunks franchise is thoroughly formulaic, recycling a road-trip premise with predictable misunderstandings and slapstick gags aimed squarely at young children. The plot offers nothing surprising, the human performances are perfunctory at best, and the visual style is competent but entirely unremarkable. Novelty scores a 1 as it is among the most derivative of the sequels, leaning heavily on genre conventions without any distinctive voice or craft. The ending resolves exactly as expected with no emotional payoff beyond the genre minimum.
