The Quartile Take

Automata has a visually competent dystopian aesthetic with decent desert cinematography, but the film fails to distinguish itself in a crowded AI/robot science fiction subgenre. The plot borrows heavily from Blade Runner and I, Robot without adding meaningful depth or originality, and the pacing drags noticeably. Antonio Banderas delivers a workmanlike performance but the material doesn't challenge him or the supporting cast. The ending is underwhelming and fails to deliver on the philosophical promise the premise hints at, leaving the film feeling like a missed opportunity rather than a compelling addition to AI cinema.
