In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hideout on the Mexican border. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are upended when a young mutant arrives, pursued by dark forces.
Logan is a rare superhero film that functions as a genuinely moving neo-western elegy. The plot is tight and emotionally resonant, drawing heavily from Shane and treating its characters with uncommon depth for the genre. Jackman and Stewart deliver career-best performances, with Dafne Keen also standing out as X-23. Visually competent and gritty but not especially distinctive in cinematography. Its novelty is high — a superhero R-rated farewell that deconstructs the mythology while delivering real emotional weight, feeling singular even within its franchise. The ending is poignant but somewhat predictable in its sacrifice arc, landing emotionally without fully surprising.
