The Quartile Take

Stand by Me Doraemon distills the classic manga/anime into a cohesive theatrical arc, weaving together beloved story beats into an emotionally resonant farewell. The 3D CG animation translates the familiar Fujiko F. Fujio character designs into a new dimension with reasonable charm, though it lacks the visual daring of top-tier animation. The plot is episodic and leans heavily on pre-existing Doraemon stories, serving longtime fans well but offering little structural surprise. Voice performances are functional rather than revelatory. Where the film genuinely excels is its ending — the emotional payoff of Doraemon's departure is handled with real sincerity and earns its tears, standing as one of the more affecting finales in family animation of its era.
