The Quartile Take

Pan (2015) attempts an origin-story reimagining of Peter Pan but falls flat in most dimensions. The plot is formulaic and cluttered — a chosen-one narrative with a predictable arc and underdeveloped characters. The acting is inconsistent; Hugh Jackman chews scenery as Blackbeard while Levi Miller struggles to anchor the film, and the Hook-Pan friendship feels forced. Cinematography is the film's strongest suit, with vibrant, visually inventive set pieces and colorful world-building that deliver some spectacle. Novelty is low — despite the prequel framing, the story recycles familiar beats from hero mythology and fantasy adventure without a distinctive voice. The ending resolves predictably and sets up a sequel that never materialized, leaving the narrative feeling incomplete.
