Milo Boyd, a down-on-his-luck bounty hunter, thinks he's seeing an upswing in fortune when he gets a call to bring in his bail-jumping ex-wife, a reporter named Nicole. Milo considers the job an easy payday, but Nicole quickly escapes to chase a lead on a murder case. The former spouses play an escalating game of one-upmanship, until they suddenly find themselves on the run for their lives.
The Bounty Hunter is a formulaic romantic action-comedy that offers little beyond its generic premise. The plot recycles well-worn ex-spouses-forced-together tropes without meaningful subversion, and the murder mystery subplot feels tacked on. Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston have limited chemistry, and their performances are serviceable at best within a weak script. Cinematography is standard Hollywood fare with competent but unremarkable New York and Atlantic City location shooting. Novelty is low — the film hits every expected beat of the genre without a distinctive voice or memorable flourish. The ending resolves predictably with reconciliation, offering no surprises. Across the board, this is a below-average entry even within its undemanding genre.
