When a group of close-knit friends assemble for the marriage of Skylar and Dan, they have no idea they will witness The Rapture and face a series of catastrophic events turning the celebration into a life-or-death struggle.
The Remaining blends found-footage horror with Christian apocalyptic themes around a wedding setting, which gives it a mildly distinct premise, but the execution is largely formulaic. The plot follows a predictable survival arc with thin character development, and the acting is serviceable but unremarkable throughout. The cinematography leans on shaky-cam found-footage conventions without adding much visual flair. The novelty of the Rapture framing is interesting in concept but not developed with enough originality to stand out. The ending, while bleak and somewhat committed to its theological premise, is one of the more memorable aspects of the film.
