After his career is destroyed, a brilliant but arrogant surgeon gets a new lease on life when a sorcerer takes him under her wing and trains him to defend the world against evil.

The Quartile Take

Doctor Strange delivers stunning, Escher-esque visual set pieces — the folding cityscapes and kaleidoscopic dimension sequences are genuinely exceptional and among the MCU's most inventive cinematography. The acting is solid with Cumberbatch bringing charm to a familiar arrogant-hero arc, and Tilda Swinton adds gravitas. However, the plot follows the MCU origin-story template closely (arrogant man humbled, rapid training montage, third-act villain showdown), and the ending — resolving the threat by rewinding time in a loop — feels clever at first but undercuts dramatic stakes and tension. Novelty is moderate: the visual style is distinctive but the narrative bones are recycled.
