After inadvertently inputting the qualities of the ideal boyfriend into a high-tech government computer, two social outcasts named Mae and Gabby must contend with Albert, a cybernetic sweetheart with only one directive: to treat Mae to the perfect highschool romance.
A Disney Channel TV movie that blends teen comedy with light sci-fi in a reasonably fresh premise — a government-built robot boyfriend is a fun twist on the fake-boyfriend trope. However, the execution is formulaic: the plot hits predictable beats, the acting is serviceable but unremarkable for a TV movie, and the cinematography is flat and functional. The ending wraps up neatly and without surprise. Novelty gets a slight bump for the government-robot-as-romantic-lead concept, which gives it a more distinctive hook than most Disney Channel fare.
