A heroic version of Lex Luthor from an alternate universe appears to recruit the Justice League to help save his Earth from the Crime Syndicate, an evil version of the League. What ensues is the ultimate battle of good versus evil in a war that threatens both planets and, through a devious plan launched by Batman's counterpart Owlman, puts the balance of all existence in peril.
Crisis on Two Earths is a solid DC animated feature that benefits from a genuinely compelling philosophical climax — Owlman's nihilistic endgame and Batman's counter-argument make for a memorable and unusually thoughtful ending for an animated superhero film. The parallel Earth concept is engaging though well-trodden in comics, and the voice work is competent if unremarkable. The animation is functional but not particularly distinctive for the era. The plot moves efficiently but relies heavily on familiar Justice League dynamics without subverting them meaningfully. The ending elevates the whole package.
